GREAT HELP

this book helped me in the class and has a lot of examples and step by step. it also comes with a cheat sheet in the back of the book that way you dont have to keep looking through the chapters for the formula which was a great help and time saver

Simple

This is a very easy to understand textbook. I used it for a course I had previously taken at a different school and found it much easier than my previous textbook. Strangely, the chapters use almost the exact same answers for most of their problems. I suppose it's for simplicity, but it would have been nice to see a better variety. I feel like Chapters 8 and 10 could have been explained a little better though. Some of the answers to the extra problems, shown in the last few pages of the book, are incorrect. I'm not sure if this is a flaw for some books, or if it's a flaw for every book in the 10th edition. My professor verified the answers were incorrect. Otherwise, a good book! I wish I had bought this book instead of renting it, because it's just that helpful.

I have been out of school for over 20 years and could not remember how to do many of the problems, but this book has helped me a great deal. If you are taking some type of math class for the health field, this book is for you.

A Must Read!!!!

I am not one to usually review a book but this will be one of my few exceptions. I could not put it down once I started and cried twice. I must disclaim that I am a mother of 4 and have also been a foster mother as well...and would strongly suggest this to any woman that I know. It was witty and heart wrenching (I cried twice)and told a story that often goes untold but must be put out there. A truthful look in to what it takes to be a mother no matter how you get your baby- opening your heart to love.
I strongly urge social workers, potential and current foster families,or mothers with children in the system to read this with an open mind to see the other side of the story and the strength it takes to be a woman in any situation. Because with a clear mind there's only one thing that matters- raising a child with love.

Highly Recommend!

I so admire the honesty of the author. She lets us into the sometimes heartbreaking world of foster care, adoption, and motherhood, and doesn't sugarcoat the struggles and difficulties. Somehow she manages to do that while still maintaining a sense of humor, about herself as well as the process. The writing is wonderful, the story is all too familiar to so many of us, and this is exactly the type of book that I am drawn to---the ones where the writers expose their vulnerabilities and flaws, because it reminds me of our shared humanity. I would highly recommend this book to any memoir fans.

A page turning read that will captivate you whether or not your are a parent of any kind. A heart wrenching and heart warming account that gives the reader a true insight into the personal lives of foster families and the sacrifices they make to help a child have a better shot at a hopefully better life. I found myself amazed, impressed and at times in awe of the author's tales of being a foster mom and of becoming a birth mom. Her story is unique. Well written with many heart tugging chapters and funny candid prose.

Buyer Beware

I bought the 1st Edition of this book several years ago. After reading about 20 or 25 pages I had found not just omissions, but actual errors in this book. I would definitely rate the 1st edition as only 1 star (or zero if possible). I haven't read (and never will) the second ed, but if I were you, knowing that the 1st ed had outright errors in it, I would make sure you see it in a library or bookstore and look through it thoroughly before committing to buy this one!
BTW, Pocketpedia and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Secrets are both Excellent books. Buy them instead, or get Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Board Review for a more comprehensive but less portable review. Best Wishes!

Kathleen S. Verderber (PhD, University of Cincinnati) is Associate Professor of Management Emeritus at Northern Kentucky University. Amazing textbook

The textbook is nicely organized and offers just enough information to illustrate points without being redundant. I wish I had discovered this textbook years ago. Aside from being required for class, I have gained so much insight into communication skills. I rented the textbook from Amazon, and their service was superb as always. They offer generous rental times, and if codes or extra access materials aren't needed for the class, I recommend using their rental service.

Stretching Plausibility to the Breaking Point

THE BURIAL HOUR is the new Lincoln Rhyme/Amelia Sachs novel by Jeffery Deaver. It begins in NYC with a very strange (which is to say a normal) case for Lincoln and Amelia. A man is kidnapping individuals, putting their heads in nooses and then using their gasps or heartbeats or whatever as parts of the rhythm sections in traditional melodies. He is labeled the ‘Composer’. At the crime scenes he leaves miniature nooses made of animal intestine—the best material for strings on some musical instruments.

Then he goes to Italy. And the case continues in straightforward Rhyme/Sachs fashion. Evidence is found and analysed and charts of information are constructed, the latter serving as helpful summaries of the case-to-date for the reader. In the course of the story we learn about the many branches of Italian law enforcement. We are introduced to a pleasant young man from their, in effect, forest service, who is part of law enforcement but who is regularly ridiculed for dealing with truffle thieves rather than real criminals. We are also introduced to a canny but bullying prosecutor who, in Italy, participates in the investigative process. Finally, we receive a putative subplot concerning a Neapolitan rape, which may or may not be related to the overarching case of the ‘composer’.

The story ends (SPOILER?) with a series of twists and turns, in standard Deaver fashion, but here those twists are, in my humble opinion, so preposterous as to stretch the imagination to the breaking point. The book ends with Rhyme’s receiving an offer to take his career in a new direction. Whether or not it is Deaver’s decision to actually do this . . . we will have to wait for the next book.

I am always impressed with JD’s command of forensic detail. Here he adds the fascinating problem of individuals conversing with native English speakers in broken English. The Italians (and some Arabs) attempt to use idiomatic English and they are gently corrected, often by Sachs. This adds humor to the narrative, though it risks distraction and a shifting of tone. In general, Deaver handles it very well.

While at first the book seems to be about serial killing it shifts and becomes a story about the refugee crisis in Europe and, simultaneously, a study of the levels of law enforcement in America, Italy and the world. I liked the characters but the implausibilities were too great for me this time. Hence only four stars.

Ugh.

I love Deaver. Ive read every single one. I wasn't that thrilled about the last one, and it seems it keeps going downhill. I haven't finished it yet. I'm about halfway in and it just doesn't have that feel to it. That gripping suspense the Lincoln Rhyme books have.

It rambles on and on about the Italian law force set up and procedures. Rhyme and Sacks play a smaller part in this book, and most of the focus is on these Italian officers. Again, it rambles on and on.

It's just not that interesting to me. I keep waiting for it to pick up and it's just not. Hate to say I'm going to be putting it down. I won't finish this one.

The series is losing its touch for sure.

I've read all of Deaver's books and usually can't put them down until the last page. I love the characters: Lincoln, Amelia, Tom and the other New York police. The Italian police do not have same synergy.

This does not feel as if it was written by the same author. It was hard to get into and at times confusing. Please go back to working New York cases.
