Good book but there are quite a few mistakes

We had to buy this book for school. It was frustrating because there were a lot of errors. For some that would be a good thing because you learn but trying to figure out the error from other sources. When you're under a deadline to get something turned in, it's not a good thing. There were also referenced files that were missing or found in a folder from a later chapter. Overall it's a great learning tool. All the files they provide on the DVD are great for learning. They provide a before and after for each lesson to make it easier to figure out what you did wrong. It's a really great reference book as well. I find myself referencing quite a bit and I will continue to use it after I'm finished my class.

A good book but awkwardly written

This book does not teach you 3ds Max but gives a good reference of the features with demo projects.
I felt the book was written backwards with animation first and building objects and texturing in different order. I am taking an online course on 3ds Max and the course first start with interface, primitives, modifiers, and then texturing. The animation portion was mentioned later after you have the knowledge on how to create something. This book needs its chapters to be rearrange a bit to make things flow more logically--you shouldn't have to access further back into the book to know how to texture something.
Maybe I should have given this book a higher rating but part of a good book should be on the flow of things.

Good Light Reading

I bought this book with the hopes it would have a strong few chapters on rigging, creating controllers, and skinning characters, but I've found those characters it to be extremely generalized. On the brighter side the rest of the content in this book seems solid from what I've thumbed through.
