Great first step to improved health and a smaller waist

While most people probably think juicing is just a quick way to lose weight--only to have it pile back on when you return to eating food again--Juicing for Beginners claims it can actually help "transform your health and your life." While the book certainly delves into the idea of juicing for weight loss, it also offers a healthier perspective on juicing, one focused on providing yourself a way to take in more fruits and vegetables than you may normally ingest. It also highlights benefits such as helping improve or even reverse symptoms of high blood pressure, diabetes and asthma. Finally, it offers an insight into why juicing is more beneficial than just eating raw fruits and vegetables, which is what I found to be most interesting and valuable. This book is a great first step to attaining a healthier lifestyle and a smaller waistline.

Basic Juicing Guide for Health

I was not a fan of juicing until I read Juicing for Beginners: The Essential Guide to Juicing Recipes and Juicing for Weight Loss. I have often read that it is best to eat raw fruits and vegetables over juicing. But this book makes a compelling case and highlights numerous health benefits that drinking mixtures of fruits and vegetables can provide. Not only does regular juicing detoxify the body of processed foods and other toxins, the book recommends and guides one through a 3-5 day detoxification process that can help with digestion, allergies, dry hair and skin, weight loss, and other issues. There are chapters on the health benefits and nutritional information of individual fruits and vegetables, 100 juice recipes, tips for selecting a juicer, and using juicing for weight loss. I recommend this book as a quick and easy starter for those who want to take the first step!

Do the Juice!

This book really gives readers the ABC's of juicing. I knew juicing would be nutritious but after reading this book I have a much better understanding of just how healthy juicing really can be! I'm a college student and I'm on the run 24/7. Between three babysitting jobs and my double science major I end up relying heavily on eating out. I really feel inspired to slowly incorporate juicing into my daily meals. I think if I can even manage to add it into my morning routine I'd benefit greatly! There is a good variety of juicing recipes to choose from as well as nutritional information on all the ingredients. That way you know which juicing recipes are more catered to your diet. Another useful tidbit, is that it isn't just a book full of recipes, it provides advice! Aside from weight loss, there's advice for how to do juice fasts! I've personally never tried one but I'm definitely going to try one out now! The book also tells readers about how efficiently juicing cleanses the body, which is really important for people today because of all of the fast food and processed food consumed.

A classic game, a sappy but entertaining novel

I remember the day I walked into Borders and saw this book on the shelf. It was 1995 and I thought Doom was the best thing in the world. So I bought it on impulse.
Capturing the the mood and tension of the game, Knee-Deep in the Dead is surprisingly good. Full of action and comedy, the main character 'Fly' Taggart is actually a very likable character. The mystery of the demon invasion and the horror that ensues makes for an entertaining read. It's a wonder how the writer managed to screw up the series with Infernal Sky and EndGame so badly when this book turned out to be so entertaining.
In any case, the book follows the plot of the game pretty well, and ends with the door blown wide open for the inevitable sequel: Hell on Earth, which was also relatively well written.
Credit must go to the author: A decent book based on a classic, mindless shoot 'em up slaughterfest that had little plot to begin with. I still think, 7 years later, that its a fairly decent book and great for a time-killer or weekend read.

Very Much Alive

Dafydd ab Hugh and Brad Linaweaver's "DOOM: Knee Deep In the Dead" is without a shade of doubt the best of DOOM-inspired fiction, surpassing even its three sequels. While admittedly unrealistic, the action is well paced, the narrative tense and suspenseful. It was interesting to observe how the writers attempted to expand the DOOM universe while staying true to its video-game roots as the game that really ignited the first-person-shooter genre.
The plot is simple and very much the same as the original game. Corporal Flynn Taggart "or 'fly'" is marooned on the moon of Phobos. Making the grisly discovery that his whole unit of marines has been slaughtered by hostile aliens while he stood guard outside the deserted Union Aerospace Corporation facility, Corporal Taggart must enter the facility not only to secure a way back to Earth but to uncover the cause behind this massacre. What he discovers is nothing less than chilling.
Written in the First Person Perspective, the style of the novel is reminscient of the original DOOM PC game, and with a rollicking narrative punctuated with both staccato bursts of gunfire and a generous dollop of light-hearted Sci-fi fantasy, "Knee Deep in The Dead" while not particularly deep is nevertheless a fantastic read with a wide and surprising emotional range-much unlike most other offerings in the genre-.

Stays more true to the game than the atrocious movie ever could.

This is one of the best books I've ever read. It takes elements unknown to each other and blends them in a way that makes them fit.I saw Hell On Earth one day and picked it up before I read this. Two and a half years later I found this after looking for it constantly. This is the best of the four, as I've read it through more times than I have read the rest. I practically memorized the game levels so this was even funner to see how they added some action to familiar rooms. Taggert's dialague with the voice in his head give some humor, and his occasional talk about the Catholic faith adds a bit of seriousness to the book, making it seem less like a mindless shoot-em-up. It gives the characteters more personality and depth than the game never did, all while still keeping up with the them of the original game. Though there is alot more to religion and religious faith than what is discussed here, so it may have seen wise to pick a less contaversial and sentimenatal subject to talk about. There are a few gaps between this and the game, such as the levels called "pandemonium, House of pian, Mt. Erebus, Limbo, and Unholy cathedral" are never mentioned, and the cacodemons(refered to as pumpkins) are described as having trunk-like mouths, but this is still Doom and unmistakably Doom. Quotes like "She's such a man I bet she got herself pregnant." add an irresistable laugh to the book. If you enjoy Stephan King or are a sci-fi buff are fan of the game this is a must have for you. This book more closely resembles the game than any of the other four. It work well a tribute to Doom.

Don't get me started on that pathetic movie with the same title. If the movie was made to be a tribute, it resulted as being more of an insult. While I would not consider the Doom movie to be as shameful as the last two books of the Doom series, It does not rank all that much higher.

To be honest, I didn't think I would finish this book. I got through perhaps the first 50 pages and thought, there is no way I can finish this. I got through the first 100 pages and thought, I definitely will have to stop reading this. But, as you can see, I did finish it, and feel compelled to rate it 5 stars.

This is *not* light reading. It is extremely heart-wrenching from start to finish. (I would also say that, if you are a survivor of domestic violence, be prepared for very descriptive passages of beatings, rape, strangulation, isolation, and other horrific abuse.) From the horrors of abuse to the horrors of war, this book does not leave any dark part of the human heart unexplored. And that is why it is so difficult to read.

At the same time, it was not a book I could give up on. The character dynamics in the book are so complex that, after a while, they truly seemed like real people. The enduring power of Mariam's spirit is, all at once, beautiful, inspiring, and heartbreaking. And, even in a time of war, love and friendship ultimately survive.

This story also gives some insight to Western readers about what Afghanistan was like, pre-9/11.

I highly recommend this book and will be reading more by this author.

Loved it!

I love Khaled as an author, I have just about all his works. This book was a little difficult to read. It didn't appear in the same writing style as the Kite Runner. However this was an amazing story as well. It was also difficult to read because of the story line itself. It was hard to read the things the characters were going through, some of it was heart breaking. Nevertheless He hit another home run with this book because I couldn't put it down. The story told here is vivid, and terrifying, but simply amazing. Khaled is one of my favorite writers and this book is now one of my favorite stories told.

The story telling is breathtakingly and tragically descriptive. Hearts and lives are torn apart through the ravages of war and come to life through Hosseni's words. He allows us to see into the lives of two young women living with so much pain and suffering and how their lives are intertwined and invariably dependent on one another for survival. A greater understanding of how life's gifts are taken for granted in the west and how, as human beings we are all the same. We all want the same thing, peace and security and are merely pawns to the greed of governments and those who war in the name of religion. My appreciation for hope my freedom is renewed.

Although not shown on the "excerpt" of the book (found on another website), the activities & personal questions that are asked may be inappropriate for pre-teen/teen audiences. Topics such as "oral sex", "pornography", "staying the night", etc. are just a few that are mentioned that may not be appropriate for all ages and stages of girls.

One of my daughter's and I did the James study by Pam Gibbs. We enjoyed James for how deep she drew students into the text. Esther seems to be a bit lack-luster in comparison. She does provide some good and interesting facts to help with a deeper understanding of some terms in scripture, however, I feel more like I am just glazing the top of Esther instead of really diving in deep.

This is an interesting intro into the phenomena of hypnosis, the author like most(I've read) on the subject begins by dispeling the myths around the subject, introduces the uses, and techniques in applying the techniques, and give a sample suggestion which helped me very much, the book has a couple of success stories as well, i borrowed a friend who prepared a tape using the sample induction techniques which entrancd him whilst reading to the recorder which was entirely funny,

It is a good book. I really like the auther and have some of his other books. It is good but kind of puts down some peoples beliefs about hypnosis and could ruin the fun. But remember it never says hypnosis in general isn't real. It also has some encouraging things. I mean by this, it proves wrong what made some people scared of hypnosis.

This book shines the light on who we were, who we are, and who we should be. I nearly died when I was 19. That near death experience revealed to me a thread that could be traced among all of the worlds inner traditions. I have been heavily seeking every clue I can find about The Primordial Tradition since then. It is our duty, our responsibility to not let the knowledge of who we are, where we came from, and where we are going die.
