not much substance

Ordered the book, Home Chic, looking for a non American view. The majority of what is offered is common knowledge unless you count the off kilter (tilted) lamp shades as a good thing. A little less than halfway thru the book she seems to be running on fumes and many of the photos are of her decorating assignments of hotel rooms ........ NOT my version of home nor chic. Pretty package, even has a ribbon page marker, not much substance.

Inspiration-- photos and text

This is not a "how to" book... so you have to "read between the lines" to think.... oh yes, I could look at my own furnishings and say this is "masculine" ---- and need to balance with "feminine" items... (as just one example, because she uses this as a technique in her design practice.) The book has also been translated from French--- so a lot of the text is written in "breezy" style... which falls a little flat to American ears..... just let it wash over you. I do find the photos of Mahdavi's Parisian home inspiring.... and also that of her work (shown in the book's photos). You just have to be a really "introspective" reader to see how this applies to YOU and YOUR space.

Spooky Green Ghost Haunts His House!

Quite a few children's mystery book series have become classics. Most people are familiar with Nancy Drew, the Hardy Boys, and Tom Swift. Even the Boxcar Children are relatively well-known. However, Alfred Hitchcock and the Three Investigators were well-written books that offered an intelligent, interesting and more contemporary alternative to many of the earlier classic series. Many people recall the earlier series well, but the Three Investigators series, which Robert Arthur wrote and debuted in 1964, has, for now, largely been overshadowed by the other series and generally forgotten. Fortunately, all of these books are available either from Amazon or from other internet sources.

This book is the fourth book in the series, following "The Mystery of the Whispering Mummy" and preceding "The Mystery of the Vanishing Treasure." This mystery begins almost immediately as the Three Investigators learn that a green-colored ghost has suddenly appeared in a variety of locations, beginning with the abandoned Mathias Green mansion and ending at a vineyard in northern California.

Soon the Three Investigators find themselves tangling with a mysterious Chinese man claiming to be more than 100-years-old, along with an array of thugs. What is everyone after? They are after an incredibly valuable piece of jewelry that could mean life to the person who possesses it. Someone understands the value, because the Three Investigators are threatened with death!

I enjoyed this Three Investigators novel. There are portions of the book that are relatively easy to figure out, but there are other portions that had to await the end of the book to figure out. The addition of the mysterious Chinese man is the most bizarre event yet in this series of stories. What the Chinese man intends on doing with the jewelry is even more bizarre. This story also had a lot of complexity and subtlety that I thought the author, Robert Arthur, constructed well.

If you are looking for mystery books for children and you are looking for an alternative to the stories I listed earlier, I highly recommend the Three Investigator series. I do recommend starting with the first book in the series, which is an excellent introduction to this series.

A solid book for learning the blues from an intermediate level forward. I am a guitar teacher, and as the previous review mentioned it does recycle licks. To me that is a good idea, because it gives you a jumping off point of something familiar. Covers many topics in thorough detail. Great job!

Good book with a lot of varied ideas and info. My only complaint is that the book recycles licks in various lessons and the licks are fequently too similar. But there is plenty of material and you will get lots of new ideas on making something your own.

Hi fellow guitarists! This is John Heussenstamm commenting on our book 100 BLUES LESSONS. If we listen to a lot of blues we do here many of the same riffs from one guitarist to another. What can make them different is the way we phrase them or deliver them.
Eric Clapton said that no matter how hard he tried to copy BB King it always ended up sounding like Eric Clapton. If you didn't drive the fundamental riffs of the blues into your playing you wouldn't sound like a blues player. The challenge is to take what's there and make it sound individually like your own. Anyhow, thanks to everyone out there in support of live music and let's all keep the wonderful legacy of blues alive! Sincerely...

An informative book...

I found this book to be informative and tightly thought out. I do have a philosophical issue with it in terms of the author's position that the Black Sun is our very Being. I would not go so far as to say that. It ultimately is a leap into faith to accept that this Black Sun actually exists or that there are daemons that hover just above your head but I guess it can be comforting for some people. There is plenty of good info on how to inspire your rituals toward a LHP bent. Also, the lesser Sabbat reminded me of the Jewish observance of Shabbas where the Sabbath Peace of the World to Come is experienced during this observance. Malphas suggests a type of Sabbat where the world of the Pandemonium is experienced as a foretaste of the LHP World to Come. That's a little too religious for me but overall I liked the info and found what I was looking for. Maybe you will too!

Many not be too great for those who question things

Warning: This is a biased opinion.

On the surface the author is breaking new ground with his book but the more I read his book, the more his work is questionable.

The premise of the book is about knowing that there is a black sun emanating black (uv?) rays in some parallel universe that spawns daemons. Each daemon is attributed to every human being, well according to him, there's 3 daemons attributed to the 3 parts of the self. Once this is known, then the mission of merging with ones daemon to understand his or her true will while bringing the kingdom of pandaemonium (as it were) on earth is the objective to be carried out.

There's other parts of the book that speaks of ancestral worship by having the ancestors in your life to help you/daemon complete your true will and you fix your ancestral karma or wyrd to remove any wrong doing of your families blood line.

I find that it's sort of based on Eastern Mysticism but for me, this book has many concepts that I have a hard time getting around. So then what I did was ask the author myself certain questions about his/her work in which took a while for a reply. Eventually my questions were answered with a suggestion to go to his/her ($5.00 a pop) forum if I have any future questions. I had gratefully thanked the author still feeling unsatisfied by his/her answers while wondering why should I pay money to ask "believers" about the book when I can ask the author myself (who's also on my myspace page)- I mean, isn't buying the book payment enough?

The problems that I find with the literary faction of the occult is that there are too many people out to amalgamate a grand system of many different elements when the fact is certain things based on their nature shouldn't be mixed in. -Sounds like I'm speaking about something else doesn't it?

I am not calling the author (who's anonymous) a fraud but rather his work (to me) is rather unsound. Perhaps, this would change in the future eventhough I doubt it. Nor am I bashing this book because it may be right up your alley, but the only way for you to find out is to buy a copy for yourself.

Malphas has created an interesting book. Among Classical Theurgists Daemons were that class of being, half way between humans and gods. Their mere being provided a gateway -- way for the human to transcend the laws of the here-and-now.
